Educational Charity Principles
Our educational charity comes from humble beginnings. Our co-founder and president, Joseph Chu, lost his father at a very young age. Despite facing severe poverty, his loving mother believed education was the key to success for her four children, so she worked two jobs tirelessly in order to give them the educational opportunity she never had. In 1998 the world lost this great lady. In memory of his mother’s lifelong dedication to give the gift of education to her children and others, our President founded the Hess Educational Foundation. Through our foundation we are able to continue a great legacy and contribute what we can to society through education.
We also believe it is our responsibility to create awareness with our students, so that they too can value the educational opportunities they have and be aware that not everyone is so privileged. Through awareness we feel we are contributing just a wee bit to help create a more compassionate and caring society.

Making a Difference with Education…
We don’t only want our students to learn in the classroom.
We want our students to learn and experience life…
…to Study it
…to Understand it
…to Preserve it
…to Embrace it
…to Respect it
19 years ago, Singaporean entertainer, Anita Sarawak, found Anita (orang-utan) mysteriously left on her doorstep. Ms. Sarawak donated Anita to the Singapore Zoo. Hess Education Centre officially adopted Anita. It is part of our effort to nurture our students’ love, knowledge and appreciation for the natural environment around them. We will arrange for each of our International Camp Confidence camps to visit Anita and her baby, Atina. We encourage all our students, their family and friends to stop by the orang-utan exhibit and give Anita and Atina a warm greeting from her family here at Hess!
Now that’s what learning is all about!
Monthly Theme Parties
We hold Monthly Theme Parties, which are FREE for all Hess students. (We have a $15 registration fee for non-Hess students, which cover all materials and activities for both children and parents for two hours.) They are also an opportunity for us to show case our amazing roof top garden facilities, engaging teaching techniques and fabulous teachers! They are free, to our current Hess students, because we want to thank our parents for their continued trust in us to nurture their children to become successful lifelong learners and because we want to share a small piece of our love for learning with children who are not able to attend our centre for whatever reason.
Each party is two hours brimming with educational play activities like storytelling, songs and chants, arts and crafts, interactive activities, face painting and more! Mums and Dads are welcome to leave their children with us and go off into the wilds of Orchard Road while we edutain (educate and entertain) their precious pups!
Chinese New Year (January) Valentine’s (February) St. Patrick’s (March) Spring Fever (April) Mother’s Day (May) Dragon Boat (June) Beach! (July) Singapore (August) Moon Festival (September) Halloween (October) Thanksgiving (November) Christmas (December)
Learners Lending Library
We have worked with Scholastic, a leading children’s publisher, to establish our Learner’s Lending Library. Our students can borrow two titles per week free of charge. We have also opened our library doors to those less privileged. These students are invited to our centre to use our library resources and are also treated to a magical storytelling session by one of our in-house storytellers.
