Hello! I am Lara. I am from Cape Town, South Africa. I studied at the University of Cape Town where I graduated with a Social Science Degree in Politics, Philosophy and Economics and a Postgraduate Diploma in Management in Marketing.

Throughout my studies I tutored young children to help them complete their homework and prepare for tests. After graduating I was eager to teach English in Asia. I decided to go to Taiwan and taught with Hess Educational Organisation in Hsinchu City for 16 months. I taught children from age 3 – 16 and some adults, too. I enjoyed working with children and planning lessons that they would get the most out of.
I love the Hess method of teaching incorporating ‘edutainment’ which allows children to learn through games. Learning in a positive and exciting environment really makes children more open to absorb information and allows them to have fun at the same time.

I am delighted to be back teaching English with Hess in Singapore. I think teaching is a wonderful and stimulating job from which both students and their teachers reap rewards. I love meeting people from different cultures and learning about each others’ way of life. Singapore, like South Africa, is a country rich in diversity and I think that is why I feel so at home in Singapore. In my free time, I love to explore Singapore, its many facets of people and culture.
